Squirtle Review

Squirtle Review by ♥Kay

You call Squirtle a weakling? Ha!
Clearly you are mistaken! Squirtle’s one of the most freaking reliable Pokémon you can have on your team, it’s all in the way you train it.
In the first generation games, Brock is the first gym leader and with this water type Pokémon, he’s pretty easy to beat.
Of course, it’s only easy in the beginning.
Right after beating the rock type gym, where Squirtle is at an advantage, you find yourself facing the water type one.
This is a bit of a problem for Squirtle.
It’s water type moves like Water Gun or Bubble had helped before while taking down that rock snake, Onix, but they're not as effective on Misty’s Pokémon.
You could always use another Pokémon that you caught and trained on your way here, but, as the 7 year old I was while playing my first Pokémon game (which was Pokémon Blue), I had made it so my Squirtle’s level was far more dominate than the rest of my “Team”.
Battling Misty was beyond tough and it took countless times for me to actually win (Strategy wasn’t exactly in my head at the time…).
Squirtle became stronger, of course, until I think he finally learned this other move.
This move called Bite. This move, I realized, made Squirtle seem pretty freaking badass.
Who knew turtles could have teeth?
I was able to defeat that evil gym leader, finally and earned my Cascade Badge! I realized that Squirtle would be the perfect partner for me throughout the game.

Not even Erica’s grass type Pokémon could match the power of my little buddy’s Ice Fang attack.

I’ve grown pretty attached to Squirtle, and I've kept him with me throughout all the games, without trying to evolve him even once.
I made use of that freaking Everstone as he leveled up, until finally, one day he reached level 100.
I like throwing my friends off while I’m battling with him. They underestimate Squirtle’s ability, only because he’s so cute.

Then, of course I kick their ass with him! There’s no need for Squirtle to evolve, it’s powerful enough already! Besides, I love my little blue turtle Pokémon just the way he is.
