Did you ever noticed how Venonat and Butterfree look the same and how Caterpie, Metapod and Venomoth look the same as well. The theory goes like this, Venonat was supposed to evolve into Butterfree and Metapod into Venomoth.

Did you know Voltorb could be possess Poké Balls. The theory states that the Poké balls are broken and that they are possess by the Pokémon Haunter who got trapped in it.

They selfdestruct in anger because they are trapped and can't escape the Poké Balls.
