Torterra Review

Torterra- the continent Pokémon, was it once towed by Regigigas? Who knows but what I do know are strategies in which Torterra can be effective!
Torterra's weaknesses are all covered by Rock type moves such as Stone Edge and Rock Slide. The use of the held item Hard Stone will boost Rock type moves 20% and so will make up for the moves not having STAB.
Depending on how you would want to use Torterra is dependant on what EV you train it in. With naturally high attack you'd preferably choose physical attacks > special attacks. Wood hammer is very powerful and accurate however a 1/3 recoils damage is done or Seed bomb is powerful and accurate. Earthquake is most peoples first choice ground move for most Pokémon however in a Double battle it can be very dangerous against your own Pokémon so Bulldoze is an alternative which is less dangerous and lowers the speed stat of the Pokémon hit, this can work in your favour if used correctly. Torterra's low stat in Special attack means you'll preferably want to avoid teaching it moves in this category which is fortunate as the special attacks it can learn come with disadvantages such as Leaf Storm lowers special attack 2 stages, Frenzy Plant means it requires a turn to recharge, Solarbeam requires a turn to charge up (unless Drought or Sunny Day is in play).
Torterra could also be set up as a wall as it can learn Reflect, Light Screen and Protect. Synthesis could also be used as in normal weather conditions it restores HP by 1/2 of max health, in sunny conditions it restores it fully and in rain 1/4 health. It should be noted that Sandstorm has no effect so Synthesis still restores 1/2 of a Pokemon's HP. Combine this with Toxic, Sand Tomb etc and for double battles a partner with Sand Stream and you have an effective partnership. It's high HP and high defence are significant if it is to play it's role properly. Torterra's immunity to Electric types and resistance to Rock and Ground deems those 3 types almost useless against it! If Torterra could learn Shell Smash it would be capable of playing a better role as an offensive Pokémon due to the Stat changes Shell Smash imposes.
Torterra has the ability Overgrow which is effective if you are using it as an offensive Pokémon whereas for a wall you would want it's hidden ability Shell Armour which means it can't take critical hits!
Torterra as you may have realised ismy favourite Pokémon of all time!
Hope you enjoyed reading my review of Torterra.
