Fact #38

Did you know Shiny Pokémon will only appear 1/8192 of the time or hatched from a egg.

Yet, there's a easier method to increase your odds its called the "Masuda Method" named after Game Freak's Director Junichi Masuda, who programmed it in Diamond and Pearl.

This method only works if you trade someone outside your country by using the GTS.
A example is trading from USA to Japan. Then you breed the traded Pokémon with a Pokémon you want to breed.

The method will increases your chances by 5 or 6 depending on the Generation, you are playing.

In Generation IV (Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, and SoulSilver) while doing the Masuda Method increases your chances by 5 or 5/8192 or about 1/1639.

In Generation V (Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2) increases your chances by 6 or 6/8192 or about 1/1366.

Also if one of the Pokémon is holding the item "Shiny Charm" it increases even more by 8 or 8/8192 or about 1/1024.

Bonus Fact:
  • Ash is the only main character to ever catch a Shiny Pokémon. (Noctowl)
